The faith of a forgotten mother 2, 2025
During this past week, we went on a mission to the villages of Antilla, Trigo Orcco, and Ccollo, located in the district of Curahuasi – Apurímac. On this occasion, we will share the story of one of our elderly women whom we have been supporting since we first met her. Her name is Beatriz Borda. She is approximately 96 years old, has been a widow since her youth, and never remarried. She only has one son who, unfortunately, has fallen into the vice of alcoholism and frequently forgets that he has a mother who needs him.
Nevertheless, every time we visit her, she greets us with excitement, like a mother waiting for her children to return after a long time. Thus, the words of Pope Leo XIV are fulfilled: “God never turns his back on us when we turn to Him,…The Lord always listens to us when we pray, and if sometimes He answers us in ways and at times that are difficult to understand, it is because He acts with a greater wisdom and providence that go beyond our comprehension.”
We cared for her, treated her wounds, and fed her. She helps us whenever she is able to move, since, having been ill for a long time and confined to bed, she developed bedsores that are now healing slowly. For her, our visit is always God's answer to her prayers.
