The Missionary Servants of the Poor Sisters from the Ilo mission organized a pilgrimage with the Divine Providence soup kitchen to the Shrine of the Lord of Locumba. This shrine houses the venerated image of the Lord of Locumba, also known as the Christ of the Burnt Feet, an effigy of Jesus of Nazareth crucified. According to tradition, this sacred image miraculously appeared on September 14, 1776, to a landowner, and since then it has been kept in the district of Locumba, Tacna.
We went with all the ladies from the soup kitchen and the elderly residents. During the trip, we prayed the Holy Rosary and reflected personally; for some, it was their first pilgrimage experience, while others wept with emotion for not having shown more gratitude by visiting with faith and love on other occasions. Many have lived in Ilo for a long time, but due to various responsibilities or personal priorities, they hadn't made time to visit the shrine.
After praying in silence, we had Holy Mass, which began at 12:00 p.m., previously arranged with Father Miguel, who was kind enough to offer the Mass for each of our intentions and for an increase in vocations for our community.
