On this occasion, we had the privilege of going on a mission to the towns of Ccoya, Sorcca, and Huanchulla, which belong to Abancay – Apurímac. Our hearts are always moved when we see the abandonment and the precarious conditions of the most vulnerable, such as the elderly, the children, and the sick, who are in need of both physical and spiritual nourishment. Due to the shortage of priests and the vastness of their territories, it is difficult to reach these remote towns frequently; and yet, the people hunger and thirst for the Word of God and the Holy Eucharist.
These experiences invite us to continue praying for an increase in priestly vocations and to constantly remember the Church's call to extend a helping hand to our poorest brothers and sisters. “The first form of indifference in human society is indifference towards God, from which also springs indifference towards one’s neighbor and towards creation. This is one of the serious effects of a false humanism and practical materialism, combined with relativistic and nihilistic thinking” (Pope Francis).
